The Remains of the Day
Kazuo Ishiguro
The Remains of the Day was written by Kazuo Ishiguro. It was awarded the Man Booker Prize for Fiction in 1989.
This story is told in the first-person narration of an English butler, Stevens. In the summer of 1956, Stevens receives a letter from Miss Kenton who worked as a housekeeper of Darlington Hall with him. In this letter, she describes her unhappy marriage life, so he begins to think she wishes to come back Darlington Hall. He takes a short holiday to visit her. And...
This story is a personal story of Stevens. It takes him into the depths of the English countryside, but also into the depths of his own past. I think he is a butler of dignity, but he is a sad person. In this story, he don't describe his feelings and thoughts, so readers have to comprehend what he is thinking. This story is very difficult for me, so I couldn't understand completely. I want to read again and clear up.

This book has many themes including
love, money, the American dream, social class and so on. I think social class is
a very important theme. The
Great Gatsby
portrays three different social classes. They are East egg, West egg
and Valley of Ashes. East egg is “old money", West egg is “new money”, Valley of Ashes is “no money”. It is very difficult to clear up the theme, and this story has many characters, so I was confused. However this story is very interesting. If you have interest in it, I want you to read this!

He kill some people and doesn't control himself. He looks like a monster. Why did he wish to be someone else?
The theme of this story is changing myself. Do you hate yourself? Do you want to be someone else? I thought no one is perfect person. This story told me importance of accepting personality and also the fear of the drug. I had interest in this book. If you like the mystery story, I will recommend this book. Please read this!

This story was wrriten in 1909 by Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnet. She was born in England, Manchester. She is known to people as a writer of juvenile literature.
The opening scene in this story will be surprising. Speaking of the main character in Japan, you will imagine an innocent girl, but in this story is not. The main character called Mary is selfish, bad-tempered and not cheerful. She is not cute. She is lonely. Her father is very busy and her mother doesn't come home to go to the parties. She spends much time with her servants. One day, she lose her parents and servants due to illness. She is adopted into her uncle who lives in England, Yorkshire. She have nothing to do there. At that moment, she hear about the secret garden from a new servant. It is closed by her uncle's command since a certain incident happened. She has interest in it. She starts to look for it with having help from many people and she know a human love. Can she find the secret garden?
The theme of this story is a human love. I felt the importance of family and friends. This story reminds us a human love that we usually forget.
