John Steinbeck’s very well known story “East of Eden”is set in California. Adam Trask who woks at his own farm has twin sons, however, the older one Aron and the younger one Cal were very different. Aron is a diligent and honest person but Cal is a bit obstinate and ironical person. Therefore, everyone in the family does not like Cal. Adam tells his sons that their mother were dead, but Cal believes a woman who manages a bar (which is kind of like a night life business) near their house is actually their mother. Adam is interested in the new project; sending freezed vegetables to the East.
This book has a lot of themes; love, family, jealousy, forgiveness and revenge. But I am personally like the part of the story where allows us to see the universal human weaknesses. The younger brother Cal grew up without his family’s love, and that makes him hard to please. The scene he decides trying to win his father’s love by helping his new plan of vegetable revoke our sympathy. This story is valued greatly and re-made movie or dramas by all over the world.
