This story was written by J.M. Newsome. And its theme is landmine. The protagonist of this story, Tendai has a younger brother who was just a little child. But one day, his brother lost his right arm and part of his leg. Although his operation was succeeded, he never ever walked with his own foot again. And he could never ever write letters with his right hand. Plus, the most terrible thing happened. His girlfriend, Sibongile was killed by landmine. She and he were trying to clear landmine against the mayor. So he decided to continue this. He met many people while he was struggling. And he saw a dream that Sibongile appeared, her words made him stronger or energetic.
In addition, it is a kind of this story’s theme, ‘independence’. He was always said that if he was in a trouble, there was his tendency to run away from problem. He realized it when he saw a dream about his girlfriend. So this story also tells us how people relationship is important. How did Tendai fight for his brother and his girlfriend? Was it a success? And what job did he finally chose?
I don’t recommend this story to my class mates. Because it is too serious to read. And when I found out that her girlfriend was killed, I couldn’t hide my surprise feeling at all. But if you finished reading entire, I am sure you will feel sadness. But it is a good opportunity to realize the fear of landmine.
Thank you.

Hi, Nanako.
ReplyDeleteI don't really know about it as well.
It partly because landmine is not familiar with us at all. I can't even imagine that I step on them when I play at park. How terrible it is. Having landmine is a one of the biggest problem in the world, I think. We need to think of it deeply but at first, I feel very lucky we don't have any around us..!
