Gulliver's Travels

This story was written by Jonathan Swift in 1726. He was a writer but also a poet and cleric. His novels are very ironical and satires on human being today, war and so on. This story is really ironical, too.

It is the story about Gulliver’s voyage. He always wanted to travel, and so he made several voyage as a ship’s doctor. After a storm broke the ship, he struggled to reach the ground. The place where he reached was the country called Lilliput. The people in the country were only 15 centimeters tall. But he escaped there and went back to his home, England. But he left his country soon to see the world. He visited many weird countries, such as Brobdingnag where the people were 20 meters tall. Then he went to Laputa and Luggnagg. Lastly, to the country of the Houyhnhnms where horses were in control and creatures (looking like monkey or human) called Yahoo were like servants.

Jonathan Swift strongly criticized human beings and wars. Gulliver was always asked some questions by people from Houyhnhnms or some country. ‘Why do people in your country tell a lie? There are no liar in this country.’, ‘Why do you English fight? People must help each other.’ At first he laughed at their ideas, but he began to wonder these were good or not. He was really proud of being human and England. But he realized he found out other ways to connect with people.

I really recommend this to my class mates. I suddenly wondered about human being and felt shamed for telling a lie or something. This novel changed me greatly. You really should read this!!!

Now, I'm reading this book on iPhone and really enjoy the story. Someday in the future, we will discuss the topic of this story.
