The author, E.M. Forster gives us a clear picture of middle –class life in England at the beginning of 20 century. We can see how important social position and behavior (how to talk with people, behavior or so) were. We find it sometimes too much and ridiculous when rich people behave. But it was really important for them then.
Forster had 5 novels published in his lifetime and I think ‘A Room with a View’ is the most famous one of all. (Because I have never heard the others) And there is a wonderful movie based on this novel. Many famous movie stars appear in it.
Lucy Honeychurch, the protagonist of this novel, is from a nice and wealthy family. Now, she is in Florence , Italy with her cousin Charlotte Bartlett. Lucy met many people from England at the Pension Bertolini where she and her cousin stayed. As days passed, Lucy found herself attracted to George Emerson. So did George! Even she went back to England , she could not forget him. Lucy struggled to understand herself and her true mind, and… The story continues in England , too.
I enjoyed reading this novel. I felt something warm when I finished reading it. I recommend this to anyone who has no idea to do for his or her future or so. This novel tells us that it is the most important to be frank and honest. Also, if you have an interest in social position in Europe , I think this you will find this book interesting. I also recommend you to watch the movie. The scenery and music are just incredible!
